So a while back I ordered a couple of dvds of Renee O'Connor's Diamonds and Guns. Since she was to sign each dvd I ordered extra copies to give as gifts to some xenite friends. The dvds arrived a few weeks ago, but one of them was unsigned. Dammit. I sent an email and was told if I returned it Renee O'Connor would sign it. Score! So I did just that thinking it would be a months before I saw the dvd again. A week later the dvd arrives in my mailbox, not only signed, but personally autographed to me! OMG! Wasn't expecting that. Yes there was squeeage and yes now my whole neighborhood knows that I have a personally autographed copy of Diamonds and Guns. LOL I have been wanting her autograph for years! This is like the coolest thing that has happened to me all year. Think that's sad? Well I don't care, I shall continue my happy squeeing! Talk about a bright spot on an otherwise cloudy horizon. *SQUEE* |

Yeah I'm a bit behind. I just heard this morning that J.K. Rowling outed Dumbledore. My assistant was ranting and raving about it and taken aback that it didn't bother me in the least. In fact I said something like "Good for Dumbledore. Popular fiction could use more gay characters." What bothers me about it is that it's an after-the fact revelation. I think it would have been more gutsy of her to include this tidbit in canon and (yes I know there are implications if you look hard enough, but one can just about subtext their way into anything). Then again, it technically is a children's book so I suppose I can see her hesitation even if I don't understand it.
Guess that's it. I'm not really awake enough at this point in the day to form a coherent thought much less post an eloquent treatise on J.K. Rowling and gayness. Random comments will have to do. hehe :) |

Hey all! My apologies for being so quiet as of late. That damned Real Life thing keeps pulling me out of the virtual world I love so much. hehe I've fallen way behind on reading and commenting on fic, but I'm still here. Maybe one day I'll get caught up. I still want to keep in touch and hear from all of you as you all are in my thoughts constantly even if the hectic nature of my existence doesn't allow for me to be as proactive with communicating as I would like.
A lot of my time has been taken up with family issues as of late. My dad just came home after a two week stay in the hospital and I have been spending as much time with him as possible. Thankfully, my sister lives with them full time now, so I don't have to worry about my mom being over burdened caring for him. Talk about a blessing. My heart hurts for how weak and fragile my dad is these days. It's all I can do not to burst into tears each time I see him. His lungs keep filling with fluid, and though his kidney problems aren't getting any worse, they complicate the treatment for his lungs. The poor dear can't do much of anything any more. He becomes winded just moving from the bed to the recliner and it's killing him to be immobile. He's a fighter by nature, but lately it all just seems too much for him. He told me this weekend that he had never been this tired before. From the looks of him, it's not just a physical tiredness, but a weariness of the soul as well. I'm worried that he is giving up. The last few times I've seen him he it seems he is slipping farther and farther away. All this makes me feel so helpless. This man has been there for me without fail throughout my life for better or worse and I feel like I'm letting him down. I don't know of anything else to do except be there cause though it terrifies me to admit it, he doesn't have much time left.
On top of that, we've been dealing with Meg's recent diagnosis with autism. It's been a struggle to find guidance and figure out how best to deal with the situation. I did however, find help and encouragement from an unlikely source which hopefully I will have time to post about later. Right now, I need to get back to work.

Does anyone have out there have a copy of the Idina Menzel song "Here" that they would be willing to burn to CD or send me in mp3 format? I simply must have that song but I can't find it anywhere. Not even on iTunes! ACK! I would be happy to provide a blank CD and reimburse for postage or if it's more convenient the song can be sent to me via USendIt. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated. *hugs and kisses to all* :) |

Happiness is mine! I received my box o' Bruce Campbell from deepdiscount.com. Sweet! As I was perusing my DVDs, I discovered that Alien Apocalypse is the highest rated Sci Fi Original movie of all time. LOL And yes I know that's not saying much. However, I so feel like calling up Kevin (the CSR at DD that questioned my purchase) and saying "Looks like you should get to know your product better. It may not be the best movie of all time, but it's the highest rated Sci Fi Original movie of all time. It even says so on the cover! Boo-yah Bizznitch!" Besides, the movie really isn't that bad it's sort of Army of Darkness meets Starship Troopers with Bruce Campbell cracktasticness.
Another thing that made my day: This morning as I was purchasing my daily Americano, Jeff my favorite barista told me and I quote.."You are rocking that vest today!" . This made me smile for so many reasons. One cause I love wearing vests. Two cause very few people appreciate my sense of style or if the do they don't say anything. He went on to say that he thought I had a really quirky hip sense of fashion that not only looked great, but complimented my personality as well. Wow thanks! That really made my day. :)

Finding ourselves Megless Friday evening Cory and I decided to take in a movie. We went to see The Brave One starring Jodie Foster and OMG was it good! I have to admit I was a bit wary. Several of her most recent films such as Panic Room and Flightplan were huge disappointments to me. This one however, blew me away. This film was so amazing on so many levels I really don't know where to begin. Not only was her portrayal of survivor turned vigilante Erica Bain gripping and gritty, but build up of the action and performances of the supporting actors were show stopping as well. I also appreciate that the film did not glorify vigilantes and send the message "Hey wouldn't it rock if we all got a gun and blew bad guys away!", which was what I was afraid would happen. All in all I felt the story was told in a wonderfully visceral, gut wrenching, yet heartbreaking way. My only complaint was the way the attack on the main character was replayed over and over again. That got to be a bit much as the footage is not for the faint of heart. I won't say any more as I don't want to spoil it for any one. (I hate when that happens to me.) Except I have to include my favorite line in the movie:
Bad Guy: Are you a cop?

Has anyone else been having problems with comments suddenly disappearing from their journal? I have two separate posts from which all or part of the comments just vanished. I know I didn't erase them so WTF? Very very odd. I've had a couple of people try to reply to comments only to be told the comment no longer existed. Just wanted to let ya'll know it wasn't on purpose. |

I'm insanely happy. Not only is it Friday, but it's Casual Friday at work. That means I get to wear my pimp ass black Wonder Woman T-shirt to work. Score!
Also, deepdiscount.com actually called to question my most recent order. They thought I had accidentally ordered 2 copies of Alien Apocalypse starring Bruce Campbell. I explained one was for me and one was for a friend. The CSR was like "Uh okay, you realize this movie isn't great. In fact, it's horrible." Yeah I know I've seen it. Not the best movie ever, but it has Bruce Campbell and Renee O'Connor in it! The movie wheel of cheese will not be complete without it though. hehe I've never had a business try to talk me out of ordering something before. lol |

| Star Trek Movie Crack |

I just saw an update on the new Star Trek movie that is to be directed by J.J. Abrams. Someone named Zoe Saldana is being cast to play Uhura. Hmmm. Never heard of her. I know that the guy who plays Sylar on "Heroes" has been cast as the young Spock and Leonard Nimoy will have a cameo.
For the most part I'm not too thrilled. Being a die hard Trekkie(yes that's Trekkie not Trekker thank you very much), I'm sure I'll go see the film, but the more I hear about it the more disheartened I become. Abrams has already promised it will be an action packed two hours and while I am a huge fan of his ALIAS series, I'm noncommittal regarding his other work. LOST was cool up to a point. Then all of a sudden it was like he was trying too hard. If he works techno music and a blue cocktail dress into Star Trek, I tap out.
Then again Abrams TV series frequently focus on strong female characters. Does this mean Uhura will be kicking ass and taking names? If so that at least would be worth the price of admission. |

Meg's baby sitter has been telling us we need to get a dog. Why? Meg loves Ms. Peggy's dog and talks to the dog and generally engages in sickeningly cute play with the dog. No way, don't need a dog thank you very much. Monday when I dropped Meg off at daycare lo and behold there was an extra dog about: a poodle named Bear. Peggy explained her daughter bought the dog in retaliation for her husband impulse buying an ATV. Okay so Bear's a "spite dog". Gotcha. Then Peggy said Bear was free to a good home. Hint, hint. I said no thanks and went on my merry way thinking no more of Bear, until I picked Meg up that afternoon. For two days Peggy gave me the "hard sell". I stood firm......

Hello all. I don't know if I am ready to fully comeback back from my lj hiatus, but enough of you have send nudges and inquiries that I thought a brief post was in order. I haven't really had anything to post in a long time. Partly because I have had a major bout of writer's block and partly cause life issues have been getting to me. Though I rarely post anymore, I do occasionally lurk and see what's going on in lj land. I've been thinking of the flist lately and wondering what you all were getting up to, so feel free to comment if anything new and exciting is going on in your lives or even if it isn't. :)
As for me, it's been up and down since my last post. The past year and a half has been one of the most up and down periods of my life. I'm still battling depression, and while I'm not gaining too much ground I'm not losing any either. So I'll take that as a win. Part of it is that I am seeking closure that may not come. I won't go into details, but let's say it's hard to get closure if the other party is unwilling to talk to you. Which I guess is a type of closure in itself so maybe I should just accept it and go on. However, I have learned that there are some hurts that time just won't heal.
There are also issues with my daughter that have been both weighing heavily upon me and taken up a lot of my free time. She was officially diagnosed last month with a mild form of autism call Asperger's Syndrome. It's a type of learning disability that has to do with relating to other people rather than intelligence. In a nutshell she has difficulty understanding and relating to other people. (Funny so do I and a good number of my family and friends. It's and epidemic!) We've been working with her and hopefully we will see some improvement. My worry is though we have been told her intelligence is not affected by this, that she will be forced into the Special Education program when she enters school. If I have to I will home school her. Anyway more on that later or the curious can email me for details if they like.
The biggest change in my life, is that back in April I rejoined the work force. I am now the Office Manager at a real estate firm. Part of my job includes the management of nearly 200 rental properties. It's hectic, it's crazy, and I LOVE it! My boss is a riot and the people I work with are friendly and very accepting of my nerdiness. I knew I was at home the day phone went off in the office blasting my Xena ringtone and the response was "Hey isn't that the Xena theme song?". Ahhh workplace heaven.
Anyway that's the gist of it. I have actually been writing again and may have a story to post soon. So keep your eyes peeled if that is of interest to you. Hope everyone is doing well and I'll keep my hailing frequencies open. :) |

I have been meaning to post about this for a while, but laziness has been kicking my butt lately. lol Yesterday, I rewatched the series finale. Partly because I was blown away by it and partly because Cory wanted to see it. He was impressed and now wants to watch the series from the beginning something he has resisted for a long time. So yay! The power of Buffy is mighty. hehe
So yeah the finale. Wow!
